FRAGILITY
ELPIDA HADZI-VASILEVA
Fragility re-appropriates pigs caul fat, a membrane that holds vital organs together, transforming it from a perishable byproduct into a sublimely beautiful material. Through this process, Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva explores themes of beauty, decay, and the ethereal nature of near-death experiences.
HARUSPEX
ELPIDA HADZI-VASILEVA
Haruspex was commissioned by the Vatican Museums for the 2015 Venice Biennale. It uses pigs caul fat to create a canopy and walls for a ‘tent of meeting’. Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva transforms this raw material, once a membrane for the pig’s gut, into a sanctuary-like space that evokes both repulsion and protection.
