Each summer, like clockwork
The small chalets groan on their axis
People piled on the carpets
Rolling voyaging voyeurs
The holiday-makers

With their bungalows and their awkward bunk beds, Benetton jumpers and unfamiliar jawlines.
Down from Shrewsbury in cars groaning up the pass.
Mums with fancy fake tans
Boys with white teeth and university offers
French kissing on staycations
Before leaving . Before the snow.
With everything but the kitchen sink.
